Chadwick Boseman died in August at the age of 43, and while fans and the industry mourned his unexpected loss, plans for the sequel (which had been confirmed in October 2018) were appropriately put on hold

However, Marvel Studios is resuming development of the sequel and determining how to proceed without Boseman, who was instrumental in making the first film such a record-breaking and legacy-defining success.

The sequel's title, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was confirmed during Marvel's Phase 4 teaser video as the first piece of information. Here's all we know about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever so far.

It has been announced that the sequel would pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman's legacy by not recasting T'Challa. Thankfully, there are no intentions in the sequel to deploy a 'digital double.'

"There's only one Chadwick, and he's not with us," Marvel Studios' executive vice president Victoria Alonso remarked. "Unfortunately, our king has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we're taking some time to consider how we return to history and what we can do to honour this chapter of our history that was so unexpected, so traumatic, and so dreadful, actually," says the narrator.

Kevin Feige continued, " "Wakanda is the setting for a lot of the comics and the first film. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and diverse subcultures. The next story's principal focus was always and initially this. There will be no CG Chadwick, and T'Challa will not be recast."

Although narrative details for the sequel have yet to be revealed, it appears that our next trip to Wakanda will find us spending time with a variety of individuals while delving deeper into Wakanda's "mythology.

"Ryan Coogler has some very, really intriguing ideas that I look forward to bringing to life with the rest of the family," Lupita Nyong'o remarked.

Shuri has taken on the Black Panther mantle in the comics, and fans have been pushing for a similar approach in the sequel, but Letitia Wright has indicated she "doesn't even want to think about it."

She continued, " "It's weird to think of doing it without him. We're just hurting right now, so finding the light in the midst of it is a challenge.

Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett are all slated to reprise their roles as Shuri, Nakia, M'Baku, and Ramonda in the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wright is expected to have a "more important part" in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, while Tenoch Huerta of Narcos: Mexico is in talks to play one of the sequel's villains. Although it's uncertain whether Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya will reprise their roles as Okoye and W'Kabi, Martin Freeman will reprise his role as CIA agent Everett Ross.

Marvel has yet to comment on any of the alleged castings, although it was confirmed at the Disney Investor Day in December 2020 that the sequel would explore "all of the rich and varied characters" from the first film.

Erik Killmonger, Michael B Jordan's intense and disturbed villain, could also make an appearance, possibly in flashbacks, though Jordan has stated that this is unlikely.
