:
Following a zombie outbreak in
Las Vegas, a crew of mercenaries decides to take the ultimate risk and enter
the quarantine zone in order to pull off the largest heist ever attempted.
Review:
The zombie tiger became a deadly monster. A zombie king leads his all-obedient zombie army, wearing headgear and a cape that wouldn't look out of place at the Colosseum. Then there are the self-centered folks that just care about themselves. These are the two widely defined opposing groups that we meet in director Zack Snyder's latest film, Army of the Dead, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The zombie heist picture has been in the works for a long time, and it now sees the light of day thanks to Snyder's superb direction.

The movie brings us to a
world where the zombie apocalypse has already occurred, and the undead have
been wreaking havoc in and around Las Vegas for quite some time. They are now
imprisoned in Sin City, where they are protected by iron grills and shipping
containers. Vegas will be demolished with a nuclear bomb to kill the last
zombies and preserve humanity from the zombie apocalypse, which is a literal
ticking time bomb. This is where the ever-greedy humans come in, for there is a
huge prize hidden in a locked safe at one of Sin City's many casinos.A hastily
assembled mercenary group, led by Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) who saved
the Secretary of Defense from a zombie attack appears out of nowhere, and
they must quickly cross undead territory, gain access to the billions of
dollars in the safe, and make their way down from the rooftop in a helicopter.
It's simple, easy, and doesn't require any rocket science. That's
correct. If only it were that simple. All things go bad when we get an
emotional in the form of Geeta (Huma Qureshi) and Ella Ward, Scott's
daughter.

From the tenth second of the film, there is a dominant feeling of dread and apprehensive anticipation that grows worse with each passing minute. Snyder has added the 'heist' filter, which he has attempted to use to good use. The trick with specific genres and tropes is that, because there is enough material accessible, the audience will either grasp the joke right away or will flip it on its head. Remember, The Walking Dead has been on the air for ten seasons, making zombies a household scene. The heist formula is the same way. Ocean's 11, 12, 13, and now Ocean's 8, as well as Netflix's Money Heist, have all given a global audience a fair taste of what a good heist looks like. Money Heist is so famous that there is even a Dhol Tasha rendition of Bella Ciao! The most enjoyable aspect of a heist film or show is the preparation and recruitment of the "motley crew," each of whom will have their own unique set of skills, all of which are necessary for a successful heist.

That very process is rushed in Army of the Dead, and we never get to experience the planning and anticipation of pulling off a great heist. The film is little in comparison to the rest of Snyder's work, certainly not on the scale of Justice League, but it manages to seem substantial.

To use Snyder's own words, the picture is ideal for those, who love to watch action, thirlling and adventurous movies. Given the spreading pandemic outside, and the fact that we are the isolated "zombies," the film is emulating reality on screen. With its mind-numbing technique and intensity, the film couldn't have arrived at a better moment. Watch it for the sheer entertainment value, the VFX, and the fantastic soundtrack selected from Snyder's personal collection.
